Report on media development in Denmark

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES

Report on media development in Denmark was launched in connection with the Media Agreement for 2012-2014 and renewed with the Media Agreements for 2015-2018 and 2019-2023 respectively.

The Danish Ministry of Culture who perform and manage the Report on media development in Denmark receives funding to ensure that this report remains embedded in the Ministry's function as the state media research centre.

The objectives of Report on media development in Denmark are to produce more facts-based knowledge of media development and market conditions, and to publish this knowledge with a view to providing a qualified and professional platform for social debate and possible new media-political initiatives.

The report is written for politicians, the media industry, journalists and the general public and covers the following principal themes:

  • Media usage
  • The media industry

STRUCTURE AND PUBLICATION

The report consists of three major elements as shown in the figure below. Alle reports are published on the Danish Ministry of Culture's website and are publicly accessible:

  1. The ministry's production of reports: Basis analysis, mainly of media consumption and behaviour, industry economics and employment
    The results are communicated primarily via a main annual report containing the results of the conducted research. In connection with the main report, the Danish Ministry of Culture compiles a summary suitable for general publication that contains extracts and draws comparisons between key conclusions in the year’s research.

    The summary is translated into English. The 'Summary and discourse' for each year can be found in the download box to the right.

  2. External special reports - tenders
    Reports on current and relevant subjects/topics. The reports are comprehensive and complex with an extended project duration. The project and overall thesis statement for each project is drawn up and formulated by the ministry and the projects are put out for voluntary tender.

    For a number of the external special reports the managament summary has been translated into English. These summaries can be found in the download box to the right.

  3. The ministry's production of special reports
    Reports on current and relevant subjects/topics. The reports are less comprehensive and complex than the external special reports.
